A Fiat 8V is always something to look, look and re-look. An incredible and unique car made by Fiat in the '50s, from 1952 to 1954 in only 114 copies including special versions. A very rare car. In 1947, the president of Fiat Vittorio Valletta summoned Dante Giacosa to commission him to build a car suitable for the US market; a commercial-political initiative agreed with the Italian President De Gasperi, as a symbolic thanksgiving for the promised "Marshall Plan". Trying to reduce the technological effort (the production facilities, badly hit by the bombardments of the Second World War, barely managed to churn out limited series of models designed twenty years earlier) Valletta proposed to make an eight-cylinder engine, to avoid the well-known balancing difficulties of a six-cylinder engine. The 280 SL was introduced in December 1967 and continued in production through 23 February 1971, when the W 113 was replaced by its successor, the entirely new and substantially heavier R107 350 SL. Over the years, the W 113 evolved from a sports car into a comfortable grand tourer, and US models were by then usually equipped with the 4-speed automatic transmission and air conditioning. Manual transmission models came with the standard 4-speed or the optional ZF 5-speed, which was ordered only 882 times and thus is a highly sought-after original option today. In Europe, manual transmissions without air conditioning were still the predominant choice. Of the 23,885 280 SLs produced, more than half were sold in the US. Please take a look at this car. It is not a picture shooted in Germany in the '50s. It is today. Look how astonishing this Mercedes-Benz 190 SL from the 1955 is. The colour is incredible. We're so pleased to have it and his driver at the start in Geneva for the Passione Caracciola 2018. Following the success of the 300 SL coupe and roadster, Mercedes-Benz's U.S. importer, Max Hoffman, suggested that a similarly styled, less costly alternative might be successful. The resulting car was the 190 SL, and it featured styling that was derived from its elder sibling, which many an enthusiast adored but only few could afford. The car proved to be popular with the public at the 1954 New York Auto Show, and it remained in strong demand throughout its nine-year production run. Sometimes someone ask us if Passione Caracciola is a Mercedes-Benz only regularity Rally. Our answer is no! We welcome every type of brand. So today we're glad to have with us a car that is a myth: the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 “Daytona”. The unofficial Daytona name is reported to have been applied by the media to commemorate Ferrari's 1-2-3 finish in the February 1967 24 Hours of Daytona with a 330 P3/4, a 330 P4 and a 412 P. To this day, Ferrari itself only rarely refers to the 365 as the "Daytona", and refer to it as an "unofficial” name. It was introduced at the Paris Auto Salon in 1968 to replace the 275 GTB/4, maintaining the same engine, the Colombo V12 bored out to 4.4 L. Welcome at this beautiful white 300SL roadster. By the late 1950s, open-top two-seaters were so popular that Mercedes-Benz decided to convert the 300 SL (W 198). In spring 1957 the legendary “Gullwing” was succeeded by the 300 SLRoadster, thus bringing the thrill of open-top driving to the range of high performance sports cars. The 300 SL was the very first fuel-injected car on the consumer market, and was the fastest car in the world in its day. Equipped with a new rear axle design, this model boasted state-of-the-art handling characteristics and in 1961 became also the first Mercedes-Benz production car to be given disc brakes on all four wheels. The Gull-wing version was on the market from 1955 to 1957, and the roadster from 1957 to 1963.
